Cosplay Spotlight: Jean Markus

Jean Markus might just be THE best Joker cosplayer I've ever seen. His renditions of the Heath Ledger Joker is unmatched. I first discovered him at WonderCon this past year and have been a fan ever since. The resemblance is insane. My favorite of his cosplays is the Joker in a Batsuit.

COMIC LOUNGE: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

JEAN MARKUS: I live in Osasco/Brazil, I love pizza, horror movies and The Beatles

CL: What inspired you to start cosplaying?

JM: I used to attend to Cons and, one day, I decided to put on a costume while attending a Con expecting to have more fun. At the time, I had no idea what the art of cosplaying was. I had a great time cosplaying at the Con then I decided to start cosplaying from that day on.

CL: How long have you been cosplaying?

JM: 4 1/2 years

CL: One of my favorite cosplays of your is Joker in the Batsuit. What do love most about that character?

JM:  I like to imagine that the Batjoker would be possible in the 3rd movie of Nolan's trilogy if Ledger was not gone. I love how powerful and scary the Joker looks in the Batsuit.

CL: Who are some of your other favorite characters to cosplay as and why??

JM:  I only cosplay the Joker character. As I cosplay many versions of him, I could point to my favorite one, which is the Cesar Romero version. But, in fact, the version I cosplay more often is the Heath Ledger purple coat version.

CL: What have been some memorable moments you've experienced while cosplaying?

JM: The Joker gave me many memorable moments and I really have to thank the clown for that. The most recently moment was been featured in the official DC ComicsInstagram. I've never heard of a Brazilian cosplayer who achieved that before.

CL: How long do you see yourself continuing to cosplay?

JM: My plan is to cosplay for one more year then I will retire.

CL: What comics/shows are currently reading/watching?

JM: Currently, I'm watching the TV shows "The OA" and "Fear the Walking Dead". I'm not reading any comics at this moment.

CL: What do you find most rewarding about what you do?

JM: Definitely bringing back Heath Ledger's Joker to life. The actor was gone so early and left the feeling that we still had a lot to see. I like the love and affection people give me when i cosplay as the Joker.
